FOUNDATIONS- foreground middleground background acrylic painting

The objective of this project is to create a painting utilizing three different photo references from three different sources and create three distinct planes of depth. (foreground, middleground, background) in a dynamic composition.
Begin by finding a photo reference (not a drawing or painting) for a subject that will be so close to the viewer that you will only be able to see a portion of them. Think about it like this element is only a foot or two away.  Choose images/subjects that interest you and that you feel a connection to.
Middleground subject will be a few yeards from the viewer and the background will be in the distance.
Once you have your references, begin thumbnail sketches on copy paper.  Create at least 4 DIFFERENT approaches to how you want to compose your piece.  Your composition should attempt to activate all of the space in your piece and help guide the viewer's eye to look where you want them to.

Always have the three primary colors and black and white on your pallette.

Remember to conisder using both transparent and opaque treatment of the paint.  Acrylic is forgiving so if you do something that you are not happy with you can simply paint over it when it dries.  If you want to keep the paint mixable/blendable keep the surface wet.  Have fun!
